The Zakynthian Brotherhood of
California Scholarship Fund
GOAL:
To promote the importance of education and heritage to our children. To provide additional learning opportunities to applicants in researching the island of Zakynthos, Greece in preparation for application for the scholarship.
ELIGIBILITY:

Be a member of the Zakynthian Brotherhood of California in good standing for a minimum of two years or have an immediate member of the family (mother or father) who is a member of the Zakynthian Brotherhood of California in good standing for a minimum of two years.

Be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited university, state college, or community; OR be enrolled in a licensed/accredited vocational or trade school (ex. electricians, plumbers, HVAC).
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Submit application and required documentation by Certified Mail to the Scholarship Chairperson postmarked by the application date, September 1st of each year.

Completed application form.

Proof of Registration from the university, college, vocational, or trade school.

Recommendation from a current faculty member, clergyman, or community source (coach, employer, etc.) If student is a high school graduate about to attend first semester in college/university, a recommendation from a high school teacher from previous year will satisfy this requirement. Any recommendation cannot come from a family member (direct or indirect), such as mother/father, aunt/uncle, brother/sister, cousin, godparent, or any other type of relationship that may be considered “family.”

A typed 700 to 1000 word essay on a subject related to Zakynthos. Topic may be general or be a specific topic selected by the Board Members. Essay submitted on a general topic will be accepted if submitted prior to the selection of a specific topic for the scholarship year.
GENERAL RULES:
Scholarship awards will be issued to recipients only one time as an undergraduate student or student of trade/vocational school and one time as a graduate or student of a different trade/vocation.
The scholarship is $1000 each year.
Recipient of scholarship will be notified by November 15th of the year of application submittal.
Scholarship award will be presented at the annual dinner dance. Recipients are strongly encouraged to be present to receive their scholarship. Cost of annual dinner dance ticket will be covered by the Zakynthian Brotherhood of California and for a spouse, if married.
